Daily Fox Feeding Causing Residential Nuisance

Reported in the Fly-Tipping category anonymously at 21:54, Wednesday 9 September 2026

Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. Council ref: SRQ-1297018-B0W4T6.

I am reporting an ongoing nuisance caused by the deliberate daily feeding of foxes on the public grass verge on our residential road.

A resident has been feeding foxes for approximately one year. The feeding originally took place at the other end of the road. After residents objected and a notice was placed on a lamppost asking her to stop, the feeding moved to a grass verge further up the road, closer to our homes.

Food is now being placed on the verge daily, usually between 9pm and 10pm, attracting multiple foxes into the residential area.

The resulting nuisance includes:

Loud screaming, howling and fighting throughout the night. Foxes entering private driveways and approaching residents as they enter or leave their homes. Foxes approaching front doors when residents come outside. Foxes climbing onto cars and going underneath vehicles, including chewing at cars. Foxes climbing onto windowsills and scratching at windows. Foxes raiding rubbish and recycling bins. Foxes fouling on doorsteps, paths, driveways and decorative stones. Foxes digging up and disturbing decorative stones.

This is significantly affecting residents’ peaceful enjoyment of their homes, particularly because the activity occurs at night and is happening on a daily basis.

I understand that the Council may not deal with foxes simply because they are present. My complaint is specifically about the repeated deliberate feeding and the resulting nuisance and disturbance being caused to residential properties and residents.

I request that Merton Council formally investigate this matter as a potential statutory nuisance and advise what action can be taken.

I can provide photographs, videos, dates/times and a nuisance diary, and I understand that other residents are also affected.
