Soil covering existing concrete gully causing pavement flooding

Reported via iOS in the Blocked Drain or Gully category by Paul Wilkins at 16:22, Thu 22 February 2024

Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. Council ref: SRQ-1066419-L7D1K8.

Puddle outside 133 Bushey Road-There is a concrete preformed gully but is covered by soil over the years from verge. Now rainwater cannot escape and drain off causing puddle across pavement 6 ft wide 5 inch deep impassable for elderly etc without wellies. Gully needs to be dug out-reinstated. Work started but not completed as yet.

  • Operative started got 2 metres left it needs a small mechanical digger for the length and amount of soil. Needs sorting prior to torrential rain. Infrastructure is there but it is like an Archeological dig to find it again!

  • We are asked by public bodies to improve flood defences etc to avoid flooding incidents etc. it is galling to actually see that it is in place but has been covered by years of soil that needs removing. Gullies/drains need suction also. Could get this done in 4 hours or less with the right equipment.

  • Needs sorting before torrential rain comes.

  • Needs as I have said a management of the soil covering the gully. The use of a mini digger and soil removal would uncover the flood gully already in place. The pavement has already been rendered impassable due to flooding.

  • Needs Management to assign a job specifically to sort this out-I am willing to meet anyone to explain what is the problem, already a problem on last downpour.

  • I suppose really I will need to contact my local councillors to push this forward as it is not anyone’s agenda to get it done until it floods again?

  • Same NO progress-I suppose we will wait for prolonged rain to show the problem.
