Cycle track painted line merges into kerb
Reported via desktop in the Cycling Route Issue category by Richard Evans at 18:12, Mon 18 November 2024
Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. Council ref: SRQ-1165741-G4H7C2.
When I saw the cycle track it was marked by a painted line, but by the time I was crossing into it to use it there was a kerb which I had not seen which caused me to crash. Bystanders helped me to get up, one of whom is a local and said he'd seen three similar crashes recently. There are raised bits of cycle track on both sides of the road. I cannot see the purpose they serve. I think they should either be removed, or the kerbstones should be changed so that there is a smooth transition up onto the cycle track, not a sudden vertical edge. In the short term the hazard should be highlighted perhaps using alternate black and white paint on the kerbstones between road and cycle track.
