Dear Merton Council,
I am writing to follow up on the fly-tipping issue I reported not long ago, which continues to worsen. The rear alley behind our houses, providing access to the garages, has become a hotspot for individuals disposing of rubbish. The situation is deteriorating, with hazardous building waste now being dumped, including exposed rusty metal, broken tiles, pipes, pieces of wood, nails, and screws.
Previously, you informed me that the alley does not belong to the council. However, I must express my disagreement. My property deeds do not indicate ownership of the rear alley. If this area is indeed private and my property is deemed the legal owner, I kindly request written confirmation so I can proceed to block the alley and prevent public trespassing.
Additionally, more than 50% of the houses adjacent to this alley are council properties, which implies shared responsibility for maintaining this area. As residents, we pay significant council taxes with the expectation of a safe and clean environment. I urge you to reassess the situation and take appropriate action to address this issue.
This ongoing neglect is deeply concerning, not only for my family’s health and safety but also for the broader community. The current state of the alley is unacceptable and creates an environment that feels unsafe and neglected.
I look forward to your response and hope you will reconsider your position or provide further guidance on resolving this matter.
