Tree leaning onto our wall

Reported in the Damage Caused By a Street Tree category anonymously at 12:48, Monday 31 March 2025

Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. Council ref: SRQ-1201262-Y0C6F6.

Hi - I have reported a couple of issues with trees in a car park you manage off Laurel Rd over the past few months. 1) the silver birches in the car park block any sun for much of the day in our south facing garden so I simply ask you to prune them and remove alot of the height (we love the trees but they are incredibly high) and I reported this last year, at a time when it is good to prune silver birches. I now have a garden with very little sun - all because the trees are not managed as they should be (and in fairness, whilst we all love them, you do have a duty more than once every 4 yrs, to prune them if they are really causing a "nuisance"... and 2) one of the trees is starting to lean more and more against our brick wall - so much so that it has now cracked the mirror on the inside of the fence. It is clearly putting pressure on the wall and it will only be a matter of time before the whole wall caves in and causes considerable damage as it is part of a decking and raised area - if the brick wall goes, so will part of the decking. Would you please arrange for someone to please visit me urgently? Thank you. Kirsty Hughes (65B Melbury Gardens)

  • OK - so if my wall collapses because your wall is leaning very heavily on it, then you don't feel it needs any further action - or are you just waiting for it to become an insurance case against you. I don't mind saying this is a pretty offensive response you have sent . YOUR tree - planted by yourselves - is growing at an angle and has started to damage my wall... either you need to come and remove it (which I don't really want as I will lose cover but I seen no other option ) but please have the manners to suggest you come and have a look or at least give me a call. I am actually appalled by your response tbh. Incredibly rude. My number is 07884362039 so please call me tmrw.
