Ongoing issue with food bins
Reported via mobile in the Litter Bins on a Street category by Ann Pugh at 09:20, Thursday 12 June 2025
Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. Council ref: SRQ-1222485-T8N4Z7.
This is today’s latest result of foxes emptying the food bins onto the pavement- even when the handle is in the locked position. This is not my food bin however. After weeks of finding the contents of my bin strewn across the pavement, I tried a different method - see the 2nd photo. This was not sabotaged by the fox - but also NOT emptied by the refuse team either. I will leave this bin out to see whether it is picked up by the collectors later. If not, I am not going to use the brown food bin service again as it is becoming a health hazard as well as an unsightly mess.

My food bin remains uncollected. I’m not going to risk leaving it out any longer as we clearly have an issue with foxes. I have followed all advice given by Merton Council regarding food bins but they have not worked. My idea of placing the bin in a larger bin with a note securely fixed to explain that the food bin is inside has deterred the fox but also deterred the refuse collectors!

I don’t agree that this issue is resolved. Please refer to my previous 2 messages. I will ‘resolve’ this issue by putting the contents of the food bin into a black sack and taking it to the recycling centre tomorrow. Leaving it hanging about for another week is definitely not a healthy, sustainable option.

Thank you for delivering a new food bin. Unfortunately, in spite of following all advice regarding securely locking the bin, placing it against a wall, between other bins and placing a heavy stone on top of the lid, it was well and truly ‘foxed’ early this morning. I only put one food bag inside but this morning I cleaned up my drive, the path and my neighbours each side of me’s drive with the contents of food bins and the fox’s bowels. I will not be using a food bin again. Here is a beautiful photo of what I picked up.
