Subsidence property damage caused by tree #
Reported via mobile in the Damage Caused By a Street Tree category anonymously at 11:39, Sunday 3 August 2025
Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. Council ref: SRQ-1240656-G5R6M0.
Dear Mertin Council team,
Milton Road #31 has recently been renovated, and within 3 months new cracks in both external and (freshly renovated) internal walls have appeared.
The property had previously been subject to certified root induced subsidence. An arboricultural survey identified two council owned trees for actively causing clay shrinkage, which in turn leads to subsidence damage to adjacent properties
The recent new damage, post-renovation, indicates that the current bi-annual pollarding schedule is insufficient.
We kindly suggest that the tree‘s pollarding schedule is increased to annually. Wlternatively we suggest that the Plane tree is either removed or replaced by a tree with a less aggressive root system.
Kind regards, Peer Froembling

Dear Merton council team,
Can I kindly ask for an update on this matter? A new structural survey has been created, referencing yet again the tree's contribution to seasonal clay shrinkage and the damage it has caused to the property.
Kind regards, Peer Froembling
