Inadequate Lights Working under Bridge and Footpath

Reported via desktop in the Other Footway or Footpath Issue category anonymously at 21:16, Tuesday 2 September 2025

Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. Council ref: SRQ-1250414-M0P8V2.

There is a small Railway Bridge near Chaucer Way, SW19 1UG accessed by footpath immediately adjacent to Gate to Chaucer Way. After walking 100 metres from Chaucer Way down footpath the Bridge goes under Railway Line approx 150 metres from Haydons Road Station. There are some lights working under the Bridge (possibly recently reinstated) but it is believed they are far too inadequate, only on one side of Bridge and not very bright, not covering the whole of the area under Bridge, The area around is extremely dark at night and I wonder if it might be possible to install additional lighting at both ends of Bridge and also underneath the Bridge on the other side to existing lamps. Underpass of this Bridge is used greatly and also provides access for fans travelling to AFC Wimbledon Football Stadium and towards Plough Lane. Without more substantial lighting it is thought this is an extreme danger to Pedestrians and Cyclists using this underpass particularly at night and during Winter months.
