Wycliff Rd - Tree now scraping on child's bedroom window.

Reported via desktop in the Other Street Tree Problem category anonymously at 13:53, Mon 15 September 2025

Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. Council ref: SRQ-1254179-B6M7S2.

Hi, I think the big tree on the corner requires a trimming, please. We are currently experiencing strong winds, the tree branches are now able to scape along my 10 yr old child bedroom window, It's now keeping my child awake night. I appreciate there are seasonal times, for when to best trim a tree. But it is keeping him awake at night, (thus me too). Could you advise of the current process going forward please and a your anticipated completion date please.

Yeah, at this point in time, I'm not up for hanging out of the second story bedrooms window, to isolate and then cut the branches (it will make a good Youtube clip, lol ) that is now effecting not only my child sleep but my own. I look forward to your reply.

Kind Regards

Colin.

  • Sorry to hear your situation. As our most recent inspection, we have prescribed to necessary tree works including cut back branches during maintenance. Please understand that we are unable to maintain all street trees simultaneously. Borough-wide tree maintenance is prioritised by risk to public safety, so lower-risk trees will be addressed as work progresses on higher-risk ones. We apologise for not being able to provide a specific date at this time, but we are managing the work as efficiently as possible within our resource limits. According to Merton Council’s policy document: Tree Strategy 2023–2029 and common law precedents: Residents have right to prune overhanging branches up to their property boundary, provided the tree is not protected (e.g. by a Tree Preservation Order) or in a conservation area. The pruned material remains council property, but you do not need to return it and please dispose of in legal and appropriate manner. Please note that access to council land is not permitted during such work for safety reasons. We recommend using a qualified tree surgeon for safe, professional work: https://www.trees.org.uk/ Find-a-professional
