Two flags on lamp posts on Miles Road
Reported via desktop in the Other Street Lighting issue category anonymously at 18:14, Tue 30 September 2025
Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. Council ref: SRQ-1258428-Q1Y0K8.
There is a large Union Jack flag on the corner of Miles Road and Church Road and a St Georges flag outside a children's nursery. It seems I can't go anywhere in the borough without seeing these flags being seen. We know these are being done to raise racial tension and create conflict. It's now been more than a month since many of these have been put up and they have not been removed. It seems that only making a complaint to the Local Government's Ombudsmen or taking advice on a Judicial Review is going to see any concerted action taking place. Is the Council really prepared to play the waiting game and hope this will go away or will it let these flags further embolden racists who strive to create create hate or division in the borough?

Merton Council continues to monitor the situation with flags put in public spaces. We are paying close attention to any community tensions and working to resolve those. We will of course remove anything from public spaces which is offensive or raises safety concerns.
