Damaged and decommissioned lamp needs to be replaced before clock go back.

Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. Council ref: SRQ-1259098-C2S9H6.

The street lamp was hit by her a truck or a van and has been decommissioned, but it’s right on the corner with the lane that joins to Berrylands from Cannon Close. It’s actually quite dark down there and needs to be replaced particularly as it’s getting darker at night and it’s quite a distance Between that street lamp and the next one that would be at the other end of the lane. It’s been a few weeks now already and as it gets darker in the evenings it doesn’t feel very safe walking along there. I’d like to see it replaced well before the clocks go back at the end of the month.

    A highway officer will inspect the site within 5 working days.
    Minor repairs, such as lanterns not working, doors missing, or lanterns staying on during the day, are usually carried out within 3 to 5 working days.
    If a fault poses a serious safety risk to the public, we will carry out an emergency repair within 4 hours of the inspection.
    If the issue is with the electricity supply, it is the responsibility of UK Power Networks, the distribution network operator for London.

  • With the majority of lamp columns within the borough, these are powered off the DNO’s (Distribution Network Operators) mains/cables which for Merton is UK Power Network (UKPN). When working on their mains, it is required that a PAA (pre-application authorisation) is submitted to UKPN so they can assess the location/date and times of works and advise of any faults in advance of works that are programmed to be undertaken. Once UKPN have undertaken their checks following the submission of a PAA, this will be granted or refused accordingly. In relation to Cannon Close, the application has been approved via UKPN in advance of the works and the intention is to undertake the new column works week commencing the 10th November 2025
