Southway and Parkway junction

Reported via mobile in the Obstruction on a Road or Pavement category anonymously at 13:14, Tue 7 October 2025

Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. Council ref: SRQ-1259887-R4C1M0.

I am writing to raise a serious safety concern regarding the council’s decision to place a temporary pile of soil and rubble near the junction at Parkway and Southway junction in Raynes Park near entrance to Cannonhill Common.

This material has been dumped on a blind rise and close to a junction, creating an extremely dangerous obstruction for both drivers and pedestrians. The position severely restricts visibility for vehicles approaching the junction from either direction and leaves no safe margin for error.

It is difficult to understand how this location was approved for temporary storage, as it contradicts basic road safety principles. The mound forces drivers to edge into oncoming traffic to gain sight of the road ahead, and there is a real risk of collisions — particularly with cyclists, motorcyclists, or pedestrians.

I urge the council to remove or relocate the soil and rubble immediately and to review the decision-making process that led to this placement. A quick inspection of the site will make the hazard clear. It smacks of poor planning and a lack of consideration for public safety.

Please confirm receipt of this report and advise what steps will be taken to address the situation.
