Severe erosion of road surface around manhole cover

The manhole cover is becoming unstable. The road surface is eroding away adjacent to the manhole cover. High risk to cyclists and motorbikes, risk of car tyres being punctured / cars swerving as a result or to avoid the hole which could result in an accident causing injury. This issue has been reported multiple times by different people over the last couple of weeks and has not yet been resolved.

  • Thank you for reporting a faulty manhole cover.

    We will inspect it within five working days to determine if the problem is with the cover itself or the road. If the cover is the problem, we will contact the utility company to repair the defect.
    If the road is damaged, repairs are usually carried out within 28 days following inspection.
    If we decide it’s an emergency we will make it safe within 4 hours following the inspection.
