Football goal facing toddler playground - urgent safety risk at Abbey Recreation Ground

Reported via desktop in the Play and Sports areas category anonymously at 22:27, Saturday 11 October 2025

Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8283752.

At Abbey Recreation Ground, one football goal (not all four) has been installed facing directly toward the children’s playground. This single goal, closest to the toddler/under-2s area, is roughly 7 metres from the playground, so missed shots travel straight into the playground with no barrier or back-netting. During a 30-minute visit, around 10 balls missed the target and entered the toddler zone. Both I and another parent had to move away and actively keep our toddlers out of the risk area while others were doing target practice at the goal facing the playground. This creates a significant, foreseeable risk of ball-strike injuries to babies and toddlers using the mini slide and other nearby equipment.
