Not enough lighting on the street

Reported in the Other Street Lighting issue category anonymously at 15:55, Tuesday 4 November 2025

Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. Council ref: SRQ-1262632-F3D7K8.

There is not enough lighting on the street. It is dark at night and we feel our streets are not safe. Considering we see more theft in our area, we hope to have more street lights so that we can walk safely at night.

Updates

  • Thank you for reporting a problem with a street light.

A highway officer will inspect the site within 5 working days.
Minor repairs, such as lanterns not working, doors missing, or lanterns staying on during the day, are usually carried out within 3 to 5 working days.
If a fault poses a serious safety risk to the public, we will carry out an emergency repair within 4 hours of the inspection.
If the issue is with the electricity supply, it is the responsibility of UK Power Networks, the distribution network operator for London.

    Did you know…?
We maintain over 17,000 items of street lighting infrastructure in Merton.
