Regularly blocked rainwater draining

Reported via mobile in the Overhanging Vegetation From Private Land category anonymously at 16:29, Tuesday 4 November 2025

Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. Council ref: SRQ-1262636-V3S6R8.

I am writing to kindly request an inspection of the tree located near my property. The tree has grown quite large and the branches are now very close to my house. Additionally, the falling leaves are regularly blocking the rainwater drains, which could potentially cause drainage issues during heavy rain.

I appreciate the presence of trees in our community, and I understand the importance of maintaining green spaces. I would be grateful if the council could please assess the tree and consider any appropriate maintenance, such as trimming or pruning, to help ensure the safety of the property and proper drainage.

Updates

  • Thank you for reporting overhanging vegetation.

If plants or trees on private land are blocking the street, we’ll ask the owner to cut them back. If they don’t do this within 28 days, we’ll write to them again giving them 14 days further notice and if action is still not taken we will arrange for the work to be done at the owner's expense.

    Did you know…?
In 2024 we issued 469 notices to owners of property with vegetation overhanging the public highway.
