Urgent Need for Traffic Calming and Pavement Safety Measures on Melrose Avenue (Mitcham)

Firstly, traffic volumes and speeds on our street are consistently high, with many drivers travelling far above safe limits. This creates a serious risk for residents, particularly children and other vulnerable pedestrians. I understand that adjacent streets — Elmhurst Avenue and Park Avenue — are due to receive new speed humps, and I respectfully request that Melrose Avenue is included in this initiative. Without equivalent measures here, the danger will only increase as speeding vehicles divert through our road.
Secondly, the pavements on Melrose Avenue have become increasingly obstructed due to overgrown street trees, which have not been properly maintained. Large branches and low foliage are blocking safe passage, forcing pedestrians into the road in several locations. As parents with a newborn in a pram, this is a particular concern for us, and it poses a significant health and safety hazard to all who use the pavement.
