Extremely dangerous pavement

Reported via desktop in the Snow and Ice problems category anonymously at 09:45, Wednesday 7 January 2026

Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. Council ref: SRQ-1268481-Q4Y1X5.

Dear Team,

I am writing to formally complain about the extremely dangerous condition of pavements on the route to my children’s school this morning (from Woodland way).

The pavements along the entire route were covered in thick ice, making it almost impossible to walk safely. I was genuinely concerned for the safety of my children and other families, as well as elderly and vulnerable residents. Several people were close to slipping, and an accident felt inevitable.

This is a known school route (more than one school) and a busy pedestrian area during the morning hours. Given the icy weather conditions, I am very disappointed that no gritting or preventative action appears to have been taken.

As a resident paying £255 per month in council tax, I expect reasonable steps to be taken to ensure public safety, particularly on routes used daily by children to get to school.

Please could you:

Explain why the pavements were not treated despite the weather conditions

Confirm what measures will be taken to prevent this situation from happening again

I look forward to your response and to understanding how the council intends to address pedestrian safety in icy conditions.

Yours faithfully,

Nanda
