Updates

  • Thank you for reporting a problem with a street tree.

We aim to inspect street tree problems within 10 working days of being reported, or 2 hours if the tree is dangerous. We aim to carry out any necessary work within 30 working days.

    Did you know…?
We care for more than 20,000 street trees in Merton, including pruning, pollarding, and planting hundreds each year to keep streets green, safe, and walkable.

  • It is great to hear that you shares your love of trees as we do. As a result of rising awareness of the climate emergency and the importance of tree canopy cover, we have received lots of new and replacement tree planting requests and council also has own tree planting projects. We will continue planting trees in coming planting seasons. To fulfil Merton council’s target to increase tree canopy cover over the borough, all vacant tree pits including ones in your street need to be filled and new planting opportunities need to be found. As our latest routine inspection, we have recorded vacant pits for replacement planting. Please understand that tree planting must be carried out in stages due to limited resources. New trees will be planted at vacant pits in the coming years. We regret that we are unable to provide a specific timeline currently. Planting season begins in October – and you can search, using your postcode, to find out if trees are being planted in a street near you. https://www.merton.gov.uk/ fourpledges/ streettrees
