Overgrown bush
Reported in the Overhanging Vegetation From Private Land category anonymously at 10:23, Sunday 1 February 2026
Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. Council ref: SRQ-1271336-F2S3S8.
This vegetation has grown well beyond the property boundary and now significantly obstructs the public pavement. As shown in the photos, the remaining footway width is insufficient for prams, wheelchair users, or people with mobility aids, who are regularly forced into the carriageway to pass.
This has been ongoing since the summer and continues to worsen. Although previously dismissed as “private land”, the obstruction itself is on the public highway, creating an ongoing public safety and accessibility risk, particularly given the high traffic levels and vehicles accessing the nearby park.
Please treat this as a highways obstruction and confirm what action will be taken and within what timeframe.

Thank you for reporting overhanging vegetation.
If plants or trees on private land are blocking the street, we’ll ask the owner to cut them back. If they don’t do this within 28 days, we’ll write to them again giving them 14 days further notice and if action is still not taken we will arrange for the work to be done at the owner's expense.
Did you know…?
In 2024 we issued 469 notices to owners of property with vegetation overhanging the public highway.
