Unfinished roadworks past due date

Reported in the Other Roads or Carriageway issue category anonymously at 13:09, Monday 9 February 2026

Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. Council ref: SRQ-1272313-Y3P6T8.

Thames Water have been undertaking work on Waterfall Road and Waterfall Cottages since mid November (with a break over Christmas). The second round was scheduled to finish on 6.2.26. Excavations remain in place (9.2.26) and multiple barriers are still present. Engineers are seldom encountered in appreciable numbers, if at all.

Water was escaping on the corner of Waterfall Road and the main road on Sunday 8 February from one of the excavations. The flow of water onto the pavement of the main road could constitute a trip hazard. No engineers were noted in attendance on site

Attempts to elicit information from Thames Water are close to futile. On Monday 26 Jan, the water supply was electively turned off, without warning from Thames Water. There was no advance communication from Thames Water before the first work began and no communication from them during the process and no communication as to why the work has overrun and if, or even when, it will be completed.

Please require that Thames Water apply as many resources as are necessary to finish this work as quickly as possible and that they explain to the residents of all affected properties, what was being done, why it was done, why it overran and why they (Thames Water, as distinct from the Morrisons contractors) declined to communicate with the residents. If the water is to be shut off for a third time, adequate advance warning must also be provided.

Thank you.
