Unsafe obstruction and restricted pedestrian access – Tandem Centre, Colliers Wood

Reported via mobile in the Obstruction on a Road or Pavement category anonymously at 18:45, Tuesday 24 March 2026

Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. Council ref: SRQ-1277259-P4X8W0.

The newly constructed pedestrian access at the Tandem Centre in Colliers Wood has created a significant obstruction by reducing the effective width of the public footway.

This has resulted in a dangerous pinch point where pedestrians are forced into very close proximity. The issue is particularly serious because: • The route is heavily used and no longer provides sufficient space for safe two-way pedestrian movement. • The reduced width restricts access for wheelchair users, people with mobility issues, parents with prams, and larger individuals, creating accessibility concerns. • The area is also used by cyclists, and the lack of adequate space or separation significantly increases the risk of collisions between cyclists and pedestrians.

This creates a clear and foreseeable risk of injury, especially during peak times when footfall is higher.

The current layout appears unsuitable for a high-footfall retail environment and may constitute an obstruction of the public highway and a failure to provide safe and inclusive access.

I request that this location is urgently inspected and assessed for: • Obstruction of the footway • Pedestrian safety risks • Accessibility compliance

This issue has been observed during busy periods and is ongoing.
