Query if approval required

Reported via desktop in the Other Footway or Footpath Issue category anonymously at 17:37, Friday 19 June 2026

Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. Council ref: SRQ-1286809-X3K2G9.

Hello, -re Our title information indicates the area is within our demise, but we are conscious that this is still part of a pedestrian route and we do not want to proceed without the correct approvals. -

I am contacting you regarding a trip hazard outside our premises at:

Reed Specialist Recruitment 120 Coombe Lane Raynes Park London SW20 0BA

There is a tree immediately outside the front of our building and the surrounding paving has lifted and become uneven, creating a potential hazard for pedestrians using the pathway.

We have obtained a contractor quotation for remedial works, which proposes: - lifting the raised paving around the tree, - pruning back roots that may have caused the paving to lift, and - relaying the slabs level.

Before instructing the works, I would be grateful if you could confirm whether this area forms part of the adopted/public footway and, if so, whether council permission, a licence, notice or permit is required before any works are carried out.

Our title information indicates the area is within our demise, but we are conscious that this is still part of a pedestrian route and we do not want to proceed without the correct approvals.

Please could you also advise whether this enquiry should remain with Highways, or whether it also needs to be referred to your Trees or Planning team due to the proximity of the tree.
