Hillcross Ave - tree not cut down

Reported via desktop in the Other Street Tree Problem category anonymously at 11:33, Friday 26 June 2026

Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9687274.

Contractors cut down a tree ( rotting in places and needed cutting) but left a large portion of the trunk of approx 3 feet ( see image) when they could have easily taken it out given the heavy machinery used on the day.

The trunk also looks very unsightly, direct opposite our houses ( no 132 & 134).

What is Merton Council planning to do? It would be very sensible to 1) Cut down & remove dead trunk 2) Plant a replacement tree adjacent to it ( there is now a very large and exposed street area without a tree between the last one planted and several properties to the right of us.

I am happy to make a nominal contribution to a replacement, it will provide the necessary shade and also help the environment.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards
