Hanging trees

Reported via mobile in the Overhanging Vegetation From Private Land category anonymously at 14:58, Tuesday 14 July 2026

Sent to Merton Council less than a minute later. Council ref: SRQ-1289634-G2B2D2.

I would like to report an overgrown tree that is overhanging end of the road and extending into our driveway. The branches have grown so far that they are causing an obstruction and creating a risk of damage to our vehicles. It has become very difficult to manoeuvre our car in and out of the driveway, as we are unable to drive beneath the overhanging branches for fear that they may scratch the vehicle or that branches or debris could fall onto it. In addition, sticks and leaves are constantly falling onto our driveway, creating a mess and a potential slipping hazard. This situation has become increasingly dangerous and requires urgent attention. I would appreciate it if the tree could be inspected and trimmed back as soon as possible to ensure the area is safe and accessible. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Updates

  • Thank you for reporting overhanging vegetation.

If plants or trees on private land are blocking the street, we’ll ask the owner to cut them back. If they don’t do this within 28 days, we’ll write to them again giving them 14 days further notice and if action is still not taken we will arrange for the work to be done at the owner's expense.

    Did you know…?
In 2024 we issued 469 notices to owners of property with vegetation overhanging the public highway.
