Littering by picnickers
Reported in the Litter or litter bins category anonymously at 21:33, Friday 17 July 2026
Sent to Merton Council 2 days, 10 hours, 52 minutes later. Council ref: SRQ-1289983-G9C4V2.
The bins at the park are overflowing as a result of picnic goers not taking their rubbish home. The quantity of rubbish is likely to increase as the picnickers are still on site and it is likely that foxes will raid the bags overnight.

Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.
Idverde, in partnership with Merton Council, is responsible for managing litter collection and maintaining cleanliness across Merton's parks.
We have three dedicated litter teams operating seven days a week, whose responsibilities include emptying bins and carrying out litter picking. Most parks are visited on average three times per week, with busier parks receiving more frequent visits and quieter parks receiving at least two visits per week.
During periods of warm weather and the school holidays, park usage increases significantly, resulting in much higher volumes of litter than usual. Unfortunately, this can sometimes exceed the level that our current scheduled visits are able to manage before the next collection.
Please be assured that we are working hard to keep Merton's parks clean and welcoming for everyone. We appreciate your feedback, as it helps us identify areas that may require additional attention.
Thank you for your understanding.
Kind regards,
