The cover of manhole dropped 2 inches towards its centre

One of the manhole cover dropped 2 inches below the surface.I've reported earlier SRQ-1288556-K0F2C2 but got reply from merton council - We didn't find a defect that met our criteria for repair.

I don't think it's acceptable. I just reopen it again. in case the cover dropped and caused accidents to vehicles or pedestrians this is the evidence to claim the liability to the council and its staff.

  • Thank you for reporting a faulty manhole cover.

    We will inspect it within five working days to determine if the problem is with the cover itself or the road. If the cover is the problem, we will contact the utility company to repair the defect.
    If the road is damaged, repairs are usually carried out within 28 days following inspection.
    If we decide it’s an emergency we will make it safe within 4 hours following the inspection.
